Design and Technology

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and developing knowledge, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, being respectful and caring towards their own and others' needs, wants and values. Children learn to explore and evaluate products from the past and present, challenging and encouraging them to be both curious and critical. This encourages them to be aspirational themselves as they plan and design their own products, including food, with a partner, group or independently, taking responsibility for their learning and being inclusive to all. Children are taught and encouraged to use a range of tools and techniques responsibly as their practical skills and expertise develop. They then respectfully evaluate their own work and that of others. Displays and exhibitions highlight the importance of the Design and Technology curriculum and provide purpose to learning, along with encouraging a caring attitude. Where possible we aim to link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. We follow the National Curriculum for Design and Technology and our progression documents, ensure consistency, challenge and balance, beginning in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
