All about us.
Filby Primary School has an active and dedicated PTA, which is run by a committee of parents and teachers, who meet every term to think of, and organise fundraising events.
We consider ourselves very lucky that fundraising is well supported in Filby, from parents and staff who give up their free time to plan and organise events to our children who excitedly get involved as and when they can and to our families and friends who attend events, donate items, buy raffle tickets...the list goes on!
Why do we fundraise?
Simply put we aim to raise funds to enhance the children's learning experiences and help them to have fun!
How do we know what to fundraise for?
The PTA works closely with all the various parties who have an interest in the school. We meet regularly with the School Council who talk to us about would enhance their education as well as listen to the teachers who tell us how money raised from fundraising can be best used to support the teaching of the curriculum. We also involve the local community including the WI, the on-site nursery and Filby in Bloom in our work.
Recently the PTA asked the children on the School Council what they wanted fundraising to be used for. They gave us an extensive list! So we took their ideas to the whole school who voted on their favourite ideas. This now drives our future fundraising.
Since September 2017 the PTA have been delighted to fund:
During 2017, the PTA were pleased to receive a £250 grant from Norfolk Community Foundation and the Eastern Daily Press towards developing our library area. This money funded new library bookshelves.
In addition, the PTA funded storage solutions for morning and afternoon clubs, a dinosaur workshop for Year R and KS1 children, material to develop a classroom reading corner and participation medals for Filby's got Talent.
The children asked us if we'd raise funds for new playground equipment and we were keen to help. Our 2017 Easter egg raffle was a huge success, which meant that we were able to fund £1000 of new play and sports equipment. Lunchtimes are now a hive of activity as the children enjoy their new equipment.
In the past the PTA has successfully applied for grants from The Big Lottery Fund and Adnams Brewery which together with our own fundraising allowed us to fund a fantastic outside climbing frame and mini trim trail which all of our children love to use.
Our successful book clubs and fairs have enabled us to purchase hundreds of new books for our library. The children told us what authors and stories they like to read and we were only too happy to oblige. Developing a love of reading in school is very important and all of us in the PTA are proud to support the school in this way. In addition to commission raised from our book clubs we use money from second hand uniform sales to add to the book fund.
Current fundraising goals
The children gave the PTA a wish list and we are gradually working our way through funding as much of their list as we can. We have funded iPads, play and sports equipment and are now focussing our attention to helping to develop the outside environment. The children tell us this is really important to them. We hope to fund the following:
